Effutu PPP supporters demonstrate against gov’t

Supporters and sympathizers of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) in the Effutu Constituency, on Saturday staged a three-hour demonstration against what they described as “difficult living conditions in the country, and irresponsible governance by the NDC government”.

It was organized by the party executives in the constituency under the theme: “Yerebre” (meaning, We Are Suffering).

The demonstrators carried placards, the inscriptions on some of which read: “Mr President sack incompetent MMDCEs”, “Yerewuoo”, (meaning, We Are Dying), “Stop pair-trawling fishing”,” We want Election of MMDCEs, “Reduce Utilities Tariffs’ and “Pay Get-Fund”.

The demonstrators started from the Shell Filling Station through some principal streets of Winneba, and ended at their party’s office under armed police guard.

Addressing them later, the 2012 Parliamentary Candidate of the party, Nana Owusu Offori, appealed to government to set up a probe into the activities of the Effutu Municipal Assembly.

He said, the fishing industry is collapsing, due to the activities of pair-trawlers of foreign vessels, thus leading to the destruction of fishing nets of the fishermen.

Nana Offori said Ghanaians are suffering, and therefore appealed to the NDC government that, as a listening government as it claims, to listen to the peoples’ cry, and put things in an orderly manner to help alleviate their plight..
