Effah-Darteh launches bid to unseat Sir John

The enigmatic former deputy Interior Minister Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (Rtd.) on Tuesday, launched his bid for the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party.

Chanting a new slogan “Alert and win” Effah-Darteh charged party supporters to unite and work hard for victory in 2016.

In what may appear to be a direct attack on the credentials of the incumbent General Secretary, Effah-Darteh told supporters at the ceremony that if elected, he will not make comments that will embarrass the party.

The party’s scribe Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John was convicted for criminal contempt following some disparaging remarks he made against the presiding judge hearing the 2012 presidential election petition.

His comments were considered by critics as embarrassing, not only to himself but to the entire opposition party.

Effah-Darteh promised party faithful he will not embarrass the party especially in his interviews and speeches when he gets the nod as the party’s General Secretary.

He was optimistic the party will regain political power under his stewardship as the party’s scribe.

This is the second attempt at winning the General Secretary position of the NPP. Effah-Darteh also contested the flagbearership position of the party but was disqualified in 2008.
