Saltpond, (C/R) March 7, GNA – The Mfantseman district Director of Education, Miss Vivian Etroo has commended the government on its policy to promote the study of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in the basic and second cycle schools in the country. Miss Etroo described the policy as laudable and said, “it will accelerate the nation’s development.”
The district director was explaining a point in the President’s Independence Anniversary Address to some students and teachers after a route march at Saltpond on Monday.
A contingent of 31 schools, voluntary organisations and civil society organisations took part in the march past. Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, the District Chief Executive, the district Director of Education and the district police commander jointly took the salute after the DCE had read the President’s address. Miss Etroo said the world was being driven by ICT and stated, “Any policy which will make Ghana to move along with the others is welcomed”. Classification of nations into advanced and developing countries is based on the knowledge in ICT’ she noted.
Miss Etroo appealed to the government to organise in-service training during vacation for teachers who had no knowledge in the subject to enable them to handle the ICT effectively in their schools.
She exhorted teachers to take advantage of the President’s special initiative on Distance Learning to upgrade themselves. March 07 06
