Educationist commends donor agencies in Ghana

The Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewuraa Abena Ahwoi, has commended some international aid agencies and institutions for their immense contributions towards the promotion of education in Ghana.

She mentioned these as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA), Danish Fund for International Development (DFID) and GTZ of Germany. Mrs Ahwoi was addressing 160 accounting personnel of the Ghana Education Service (GES) from the 12 districts of the Central Region at Ajumako at the weekend as part of a four-day workshop initiated by the GES to upgrade the knowledge and skills of its personnel.

Mrs. Ahwoi conceded that, but for the immense assistance from external organisations like USAID, JICA, DIFID and the rest, the nation would have found it extremely difficult to implement some of her vital education programmes. The Regional director reminded participants of the need to match academic excellence with good moral qualities in order to maintain a credible image for their profession and the GES.

She therefore cautioned the accounts personnel to be prudent in the financial administration of their respective offices to ensure judicious application of funds allocated their districts. Mrs. Beatrice A. Sykes, acting Director of the Ghana Education Staff Development Institute (GESDI), stressed the need to adopt changes in accounting principles to show transparency and to check fraud.

The District Director in charge of Ajumako, Mrs. Florence Bekoe Addo, advised the participants to learn to exchange ideas from time to time to enable them to render a more appreciable service to the state. She warned that any shortfall in their work would adversely affect the effective administration of the GES.
