Educationist appeals to parents to invest in their children’s education

Koforidua, July 14, GNA – Mr Nii Lante Cleland, the New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, has advised parents to invest in the education of their children instead of spending lavishly on unnecessary things.

He reminded them that education was the best legacy they could bequeath to their children.

Mr Cleland was speaking at the inauguration of a computer laboratory for the Nyerede-Agavenya Roman Catholic School in Koforidua on Thursday.

Cantwell Aidan, Clare and Javier, friends of the school in the United Kingdom, donated five computers for the GH¢ 10,310 facility.

He advised teachers to make effective use of the facility to enable the school children to acquire Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills.

Mr Cleland also advised the school children to take their studies serious to enable them to pass their examinations.

Mr Maxwell Azelim Bukari, Head teacher of the school, commended donors of the equipment for the gesture, saying it came at the time when the school needed it most to promote the study of ICT, which has become an examinable subject in Basic Education Certificate Examination.

He appealed to individuals and organizations to support government in promoting education since it is very expensive to manage the sector.

Mr Clement Yaw Baba, the Local Manager Catholic Education Unit, in a speech read on his behalf, advised staff and school children, to take good care of the computers and the laboratory, to prolong their life span.

He appealed to individuals and organizations to assist in equipping schools with computers, books and other educational materials, to enhance teaching and learning.
