Education Review Report Soon

The Minister of Education, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has said the Presidential Education Review Committee is to submit its report in the next few weeks for consideration.

Speaking at the 31st Speech and Prize Giving Day of Akosombo International School at the weekend in Akosombo, he said the Committee will make recommendations to the government to overhaul the educational system.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi also said by the end of this year government would meet its target of providing books to both first and second cycle levels at a ratio of one book to a pupil and student.

He announced that the MOE in consultation with the Ghana Education Service (GES) has set up the Private Schools Unit to regulate and supervise the activities of private schools.

Further, the MOE in consultation with stakeholders has drafted the Private Schools Regulation Bill which when passed into law will ensure that Private Schools operate within the confines of the law.

He urged private schools to strictly adhere to the fees approved for them by government, and said charging of exorbitant fees prevents the poor from seeking better education for their wards.

The Ag. Director of Akosombo International School, Mrs. Manieson-Annancy said the educational review would afford the school time to develop the creativity of students.

The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby chaired the function which was attended by both old and continuing students of the school. Some students were awarded for outstanding academic performance.
