Education Officer advises parents to support teachers

Nkoranza, (B/A), Jan. 28, GNA – Ms Agartha Osei, Nkoranza District Girls Education Officer on Wednesday called on parents to support teachers in their efforts to improve on the education of their children.

Ms Osei gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on her annual report and activities she undertook in 2008. She complained about the intransigence of some adolescent students who defied school rules and regulations. Ms Osei urged parents to support teachers to instil discipline in the students. She urged parents to provide their children with their basic school needs and to show greater concern for their education.

Ms Osei appealed to school management committees to liaise with assembly members, traditional authorities and unit committees to enact bye-laws to regulate the attendance of school children at video shows, concerts, funerals and other social events. She advised teachers to live above reproach and to properly handle children entrusted into their care to maintain the dignity of the teaching profession.
