Education Ministry urged to set-up fund to promote excursions

Accra, Dec. 11, GNA – A headmaster has appealed to the Ministry of Education to set up a fund to support and promote the organisation of excursions in schools, especially in deprived institutions.

Mr Sulemana Alhassan, the headmaster of the Wa Islamic Senior Secondary School making the appeal on Friday in Accra, said even though schools embark on an excursion and educational trips, some schools like the deprived ones did not get such opportunities because they could not afford. “It is refreshing and more educative to let the students travel to other areas to let them understand how systems work, so that they will be able to make useful decisions for their future,” Mr Alhassan said. He made the appeal when he led teachers and students of his school to Parliament House to be educated on the proceedings on the floor and other parliamentary activities.

Mr Alhassan said the Ministry of Education should consider the drawing up of a comprehensive excursion programmes for students at all levels every year. He said excursions to important places like Parliament House, would expose students about governance and other development issues. Mr Alhassan also appealed to colleague headmasters to make the best out of excursions whenever they were organised saying such events exposed the students to a lot of issues that complemented what they learnt at school. Mr Mathias Puozaa, Member of Parliament for Nadowli East, who addressed the students urged them to learn hard to be able to take up the mantle of leadership when they grew up. 11 Dec. 09
