Education is vital for youth development – Darko-Mensah

Takoradi, May 21, GNA – Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Takoradi, has observed that education was the only way to improve the socio-economic development of any country. He has therefore appealed to the youth to take their education serious and improve on their knowledge and skills. Mr Darko-Mensah made the observation during an interaction with assembly members in his constituency and inauguration of a five-member educational committee in Takoradi. He said the committee was to liaise with the assembly to find ways of improving on education of the youth and scholarships would be awarded to brilliant but needy students in the metropolis to further their education.

Mr Darko-Mensah said scholarships would be awarded to 10 Senior High School (SHS) graduates to further their education in tertiary institutions and 500 students in vocational and technical institutions for their National Vocational and Technical Institute Examination. He said a priority area would be the construction of a modern library in Takoradi with an auditorium, conference room, computers and an internet.

The committee has Nana Kobina Osei Nketsia as Chairman, Mr Oduro Acheampong as Secretary, with Mr R.T. Oteng, Madam Mercy Quashie and Mr Kwamena Atuabo as members. 21 May 09
