Education is the crucible to national development-Chief

Asokore (Ash), June 2, GNA – Nana Susubiribi Krobea Asante, Paramount Chief of Asokore Traditional Area, has said education was indispensable to national development He said without the development of the human resource, the construction of roads, expansion of electricity, water and other environmental activities would not augur well for the effective development of the country.

Nana Asante said this when he laid a foundation stone for the construction of an assembly hall for T.I.Ahmadiyya Senior High School at Asokore near Effiduase in the Sekyere East District on Monday. The Chief, who had donated 5,000 dollars towards the project, said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission had done a lot in education and health to the people in the area and the nation as a whole. He said it was in appreciation of this that he and the traditional council had decided to assist the School in its efforts to provide a hall for the over 1,000 students.

Nana Susubiribi Krobea Asante said he was committed to the long standing collaboration between traditional authorities and non-indigenous bodies in the areas of education and health and would not relent in his efforts to approach authorities for their needs to be met.

Mr. Sarfo Kantanka, the Sekyere East District Director of Education, appealed to parents not to hide behind the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme and refuse to support the development of basic schools.

“There is the need for Teacher/Parent Associations and other stakeholders to support school authorities in the provision of infrastructural facilities to ensure effective teaching and learning in schools”.

Miss Ayesha Boakye, a student, enumerated the challenges of the school which include poor access road to the school, encroachment on school land, the lack of a perimeter wall for the school, poor science laboratory and library books as well as lack of accommodation for teachers and students.
