Education is a tool to combat poverty in Northern Regions-MCE

Bolgatanga, Aug 2, GNA – Mr Epsona Ayamga, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Bolgatanga Assembly in the Upper East Region, at the weekend observed that education is one of the major tools that could be used to combat poverty in the three Northern Regions.

The MCE said this at the graduation ceremony of the Fountain Gate International School in Bolgatanga. He stressed the need for parents to send their children to school.

He said with the introduction of many interventions such as the capitation grant, school feeding programme, free school uniforms and exercise books, parents would not have any excuse for refusing to send their children to school.

He warned that parents who refused to send their children to school when caught would not be spared and said it was an offence under the children’s act for parents to refuse to send their children to school.

The MCE told parents that there was no investment that could attract more profit than education, and entreated parents to send their children to school and to support them to the tertiary levels.

Reverend Mrs Rosemond Anaba, Director of the School, advised the students to study hard to enable them become more responsible in the society and said the school had a vision to achieve holistic development of children to empower them to become productive citizens.

Reverend Eastwood Anaba, Senior Pastor of the Fountain Gate Chapel and Board Chairman of the School, told the parents that children were a special gift from God and they had to be given special attention in their growth and development.
