Educate the Muslim girl – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged Muslims to pay more attention to the education of the girl-child.

Speaking at the Black Star Square Monday, President Akufo-Addo, who is also the African Union’s spokesperson on Gender and Development said empowering the Muslim girl is critical in modern times.

“I cannot end my address to you without saying a word about the education of the Muslim girl or woman,” Akufo-Addo told the gathering of Muslims.

The President further said “it is important for us to recollect that one of the cardinal teachings of Prophet Mohammed is gender injustice… and see to the empowerment of the Muslim girl – a subject of importance. The Prophet restored the dignity of the woman which we must uphold.”

The President likened the Prophet to Dr. Kwegir Aggrey who was a proponent of women empowerment. He said empowering women is paramount in nation building. Nana Akufo-Addo also urged Muslims to continue to cultivate the virtues of tolerance, devotion and discipline as they exhibited during the month of Ramadan.

He also asked them to pray for him and his government to succeed.
