EDITORIAL: Accra City Stinks

The city of Accra is stinking, smelling bad and offensive odour is emitting from all public places of the city.

It says, however, that people who are given the duty to clean the city are not doing enough.

For sometime now, refuse collection in the city has not been satisfactory and the situation has gone from worse to worst with the current rainy season.

A drive through even some of the ceremonial streets of the city, portrays Accra as a city without any discipline, as particles of rain-driven sand are left at vantage points of the streets.

The AMA whose responsibility it is to keep the city clean is so much indebted to the Environmental Service Providers Association, and as a result, some of them have withdrawn their services or are working with half work-force.

The organizations in charge of an epidemic in the city, should the rules of hygiene and sanitation not be properly observed.

The Environmental Services Providers Association, the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council, AMA and the Ministry of Tourism and Beautification of Accra should come together and solve the problem.
