Edina Chief issues ultimatum to KEEA MCE

Elmina (C/R), April 28, GNA – The Edina Traditional Council has given Mrs Veronica Essuman-Nelson, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Komenda,Edina, Eguafo,Abirem (KEEA), a one week ultimatum to appear before it to explain why the council should not hold the launch of the Edina Bakatua festival at Bakano near the Benyah Lagoon. He said this at a press conference to express the traditional council’s displeasure at a letter sent by the MCE barring them from launching the festival at that venue.

The chiefs, led by Nana Kodwo Condua VI, the Omanehene of Elmina, said if Mrs Essuman-Nelson fails to appear before the council, this year’s Bakatue Festival would not be celebrated.

The letter said the launch should not be held for at Bakano “for security reasons.”

Nana Condua said there was no security threat at Elmina and therefore saw no reason for the MCE to prevent the council from holding the function. Mr. Amandzeba Houphet, the Public Relations Officer of KEEA, said Bakano was the meeting place of fisherman and since there was a problem between the fishermen and Nana Conduah, there might be clashes if the launch is allowed to take place.
