Economy will breakdown if Single Spine is maintained – Otumfuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says Ghana’s economy will breakdown if the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) is maintained.

According to Otumfuo Osei Tutu, using 70 per cent of the country’s revenue to pay salaries of just a few people in the public sector is untenable.

Asantehene said the Single Spine Salary Structure was created by human beings and must be changed to save the nation’s ailing economy.

The Asantehene was speaking at a Special Congregation by the University of Professional Studies, Accra where an honorary doctorate was conferred on him, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Doe Adjaho and Albert Kan Dapaah.

The Asantehene also touched on corruption which he said could break the country if not checked immediately.

He urged President Mahama to crack the whip on corrupt officials who have been indicted in several corruption scandals.

The Asantehene also stated that the cost of doing business in the country has become very high due to the recent increase in utility tariffs.
