The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will launch a nationwide exercise to recover outstanding electricity payments on Monday, November 9, warning customers in arrears that they risk disconnection.
The Mass Revenue Mobilisation Exercise will continue until Friday, November 27, 2026, and will target every category of customer with unpaid bills. This includes residential, commercial and industrial users, as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, ECG’s General Manager for External Communications, announced the campaign on behalf of the Company. He urged customers to settle their arrears before the exercise begins to avoid having their electricity supply disconnected and incurring additional reconnection fees.
The announcement leaves customers with outstanding bills only a short period to make payment, coming two days before the start of the exercise.
Dr Ayiku said the operation was intended to improve ECG’s revenue collection and strengthen the Company’s financial position. He added that customers’ prompt payment of bills was important to ECG’s operational efficiency and its ability to provide electricity services.
Special teams will be deployed to monitor the exercise, with action to be taken against customers involved in illegal electricity connections or attempts to obstruct the operation.
The teams will also apprehend and prosecute anyone who illegally reconnects their electricity supply after being disconnected. Dr Ayiku warned that illegal connections and self-reconnection could result in arrest and prosecution.
Customers who cannot access their bills have been advised to visit their nearest ECG office for assistance.
ECG encouraged customers to continue using its usual payment channels, with particular emphasis on the ECG Mobile App, which is available to download from the Google Play Store.
Those requiring further help can contact the ECG Contact Centre on 0302 611611 or contact the Company through its social media handles.
Dr Ayiku said ECG remained committed to providing reliable electricity services. He appealed to customers with arrears to fulfil their payment obligations and cooperate with ECG staff during the revenue mobilisation exercise.
He said customer support would assist the Company in improving the service it provides.
