ECG repair works cause heavy traffic on Obasanjo Highway

Traffic has intensified on the Olusegun Obasanjo Highway following the laying of underground cables by engineers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) there, a situation which has led to the closure of the section of the road in front of the ECG’s Achimota substation.

The stretch of the road from the Perez Chapel to the Ebony Junction has been closed to motorists. All through the weekend, motorists were locked up in a huge traffic jam while using the highway.

Class FM’s Eric Mawuena reported on Monday that for those headed to the N1 Highway from the 37 Military Hospital area, the traffic starts just a few meters from the Accra Girls’ Senior High School.

He added that officials of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division of the Ghana Police Service had spoken with the contractors working on the project to expedite action. However, it was not likely that the project would be completed anytime soon, an indication the situation could get worse.
