ECG Explains Unstable Power Supply

THE Electricity Company of Ghana says it is working feverishly to resolve the recent, frequent power outages causing major problems for industries and homes.

The Operations Manager of ECG, Ben Kumfoh, who made this known to the Times yesterday, said the outages were due to faults in the power supply system. He said the system has been designed in such a way that if a fault occurs on a line, that line automatically goes off to prevent a wider area being affected.

?For example, if there should be a fire outbreak on a particular line, the system will notice within seconds and go off automatically. If that is not done, it could endanger other lines,? he said.

He said most of the power outages that occurred in some areas yesterday were due to such faults at the Achimota sub-station.
