Koforidua, Oct. 09 GNA – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has embarked on an electricity booster project to ensure constant power supply and stability in the Eastern Region.
Currently, a Norwegian Company had been contracted and had started work to drain the lines from Akyem Tafo in the East Akyem District to join the pylons at the mile-50 sub-station in Koforidua.
The project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this Month, would improve electricity supply and power outages would be minimized to the barest minimum in the New Juaben Municipality.
Mr Kobina Arthur-Forson, Regional Director of the ECG, disclosed this in an interview with the GNA in Koforidua.
He said as part of the project, the ECG was also upgrading the lines at Akyem Anyinam and Kwabeng.
“Similarly a substation each had been built at Akyem Oda and Nkawkaw as part of the project earlier on to boost power supply for the communities in and around those areas,” he said.
He said the company was changing the lines from 11,000 volts to 33,000 volts to reach more people with energy supply and to also boost water supply, which was currently low because the voltage could not support the pumping machines.
According to him, the draining of lines to the substation was significant because when it was completed anytime the Nsukwao Substation went off, the mile 50 substation would take over and supply power.
Mr Arthur-Forson said with the changing of the conductors in the region from copper to aluminum, the frequent theft of conductors that was resulting in power outages had ceased and with the new project power supply would stabilize.
He however appealed to the citizens to bear with the company as there would be periodic power outages to ensure a smooth work
