Tarkwa (W/R) June 30, GNA- Tarkwa and its environs are not enjoying TV News Telecast and other programmes since the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power supply to the Station. Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Tarkwa Transmission
Station, owes ECG a huge amount of electricity bills. The Station was earlier disconnected but because of the Football match between the Black Stars and Bafana Bafana of South Africa, it was reconnected after which it was finally disconnected on June 22, 2005. Since then, residents at Tarkwa and its environs only watched TV for two hours a day or no transmission at all.
Mr Emmanuel Tachie, technician at the Station told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, though the alternative source of power is a stand by generator, there is no fuel to run it apart from a small amount of fuel being supplied by the GBC’s Western Regional Head Office, adding, five barrels of gas oil were needed in a day. Mr Tachie said when two transmitters for TV and Radio respectively, were switched on for 24 hours everyday for one month, the Station would have to pay 22 million cedis as light bill.
