ECG boss’ dismissal not solution to energy crisis – ACEP

The Director of research for the African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), John Peter Amewu has said the dismissal of the ECG boss will not have any positive impact on the energy crisis that has engulfed the country.

According to him, the problem with the country’s energy sector has more to do with government’s policies than an individual’s capacity.

ECG boss William Hutton-Mensah, has been replaced with the head of procurement of the power distributor, Robert Dwamena, according to a statement from the Presidency, Friday.

Speaking on Starr Midday News Peter Amewu said the dismissal is misplaced.

“I think nothing is going to change and I think the President has fired the wrong person.”

“The current problem we have in the energy sector is not as a result of the ECG boss, it has more to do with policies at the higher level. This is more of misplaced priorities in terms of target and I think the President shot at the wrong target,” he stated.

Amewu said the President must also take part of the blame for the power crisis.

“I think the President himself contributes largely to some of the power crisis that we have now because of the promises and assurances he gave this country as far back as 2013”.
