ECG apologises to customers in Western Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region on Monday apologized to its customers for the frustration and inconvenience they suffered in their efforts to purchase prepaid electricity credits last week.

Customers last week queued under the scorching sun to purchase electricity power at the various prepaid selling points as a result of ECG system slowdown.

Mr. Philip Osei Bonsu, Regional Public Relations Officer of the ECG, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi that the company resolved the system’s slowness last Saturday.

He described the inconvenience as unfortunate and assured customers that it would try as much as possible to prevent its recurrence.

Mr. Bonsu indicated that as a service company, it buys and sells electricity power to its customers with the objective to provide power at all times, and that the system failure was not deliberate.

He said the system failure compelled the Company to close all private selling points in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and customers were required to purchase prepaid credit at the district and regional office of ECG, which created the long queues.

However, since the challenge had been resolved, customers could visit private vendors in the metropolis to buy prepaid credits.
