EC will work to meet the people’s aspirations – Quaye

Agona-Nkwanta (W/R), Nov. 13, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) would not compromise its position to ensure true democratic dispensation that would enhance the people’s aspiration for peace, harmony and development, an official of the Commission has stated.

Mr Nat Quaye, Ahanta West District Electoral Officer said EC was aware of the onerous duty to become a beacon of hope for many people by providing a level playing field for all political parties, individuals and institutions, who cherished human rights and democracy for growth. He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Agona-Nkwanta on Saturday after leading a team to conduct elections for the Ahanta West constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr Quaye was the EC electoral officer, who conducted the recent bye-election in Odododiodio constituency in Accra.

The jubilations that followed NDC victory in that election was enacted when Mr Quaye was introduced to the delegates and other party faithful, who had gathered to witness the constituency elections. They showered praises on Mr Quaye amid singing and dancing. Mr Quaye said the EC would continue to protect its image and exert its independence by strictly observing the electoral rules and regulations without fear or favour.

Mr Quaye, who said his transfer to Ahanta West District barely two months ago was “purely administrative” and called for support for the EC to enable its to coordinate its activities with other stakeholders to entrench democracy in the country.
