EC will rise up to its duties – President Kufuor

Accra, March 16, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday gave the assurance that the Electoral Commission (EC) would overcome the teething problems associated with the registration exercise and rise up to its duties.
“I hope the teething problems encountered during the first day of the registration exercise would be overcome. We expect the EC to rise up to its duties to register all qualified citizens during the period”, he said.
President Kufuor was speaking to newsmen after he had registered at a temporary booth registration Centre at the Airport Residential Area in the Ayawaso Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. He was the 19th person to be registered at 1330 hours and his wife Mrs Theresah Kufuor was the 20th person to be registered at the polling station when registration for eligible voters began throughout the country on Tuesday, March 16.
President Kufuor said the EC was an independent constitutional body and had the competence to perform adding that he was optimistic that eligible voters from tomorrow would be served quickly and efficiently as the exercise continued.
Mrs Kufuor encouraged women to come out in their numbers to register in order to exercise their franchise during the elections. Mr Samuel Kenney Odjeawo, the Registration Assistant handed over to President Kufuor and his wife their receipts to come later during the exercise to take their photographs.
