EC to sanction registration officers who close before 1800 hours

The Electoral Commission (EC), has said it would sanction registration officers that close before 1800 hours.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview in Takoradi, Mr. Steve Opoku-Mensah, the Western Regional Director of the EC, said he had received complaints from prospective registrants that they were refused registration by some registration officers because the officers claimed they had closed for the day’s work even though it was not 1800 hours.

Mr. Opoku-Mensah said such negative attitude by some of the officers had resulted in some skirmishes between the electorate and registration officials in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

He said, the EC would sanction any registration officer found culpable and reiterated that, all registration centres throughout the country had been told to start registration at 0700 hours and close at 1800 hours daily.

Mr Opoku-Mensah appealed to prospective registrants to report any registration officer who would go contrary to the stipulated time to the EC.**
