EC should not have opportunity to manipulate in 2016 – PPP

The Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP) says it will pursue its agenda for electoral reforms to guarantee that effective systems are put in place for smooth electoral process in 2016.

The PPP has vehemently rejected the results of the general elections and accused the EC and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of conniving to massage the figures.

The party’s General Secretary, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, speaking on Citi Fm in Accra intimated that his party will rather focus on pursing its agenda for electoral reforms to prevent future electoral discrepancies.

“Our option is not to go to the Supreme Court. Once the NPP has decided to exercise its right under the Constitution, they are free to do so. We want a situation where we will not have this discussion in 2016 that a system must be put in place that Electoral Officers do not have the opportunity to manipulate, to add wrong figures to the tabulation,” he submitted.

Mr. Siaw further added that despite new evidence revealed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the 2012 elections, the PPP will still not go to the court over the matter, but endorses the NPP’s petition filed against the EC over the outcome of the 2012 election at the Supreme Court.
