EC sets November 10 for presidential balloting

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set November 10, 2016 for presidential balloting.

The commission announced this in a statement on Monday, 7 November, stating that by the judgement of the apex court, they “are to declare the candidates so nominated [after correction of errors] to contest the 2016 elections by close of Wednesday, 9 November 2016.

“The court also ordered that the Commission conduct the balloting of presidential candidates by Thursday, November 10, 2016”.

This follows the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the EC’s suit challenging the High court ruling asking them to allow the PPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Nduom to correct his nomination form errors.

A Seven-member panel on the Monday ruling asked the election management body to extend the nomination period to November 8, and allow the candidates to correct their mistakes in order to contest the polls.

The court also ordered the discontinuation of the various court cases regarding the disqualification of other presidential aspirants.
