EC officials held over pink sheets

Reports reaching Joy News indicate that two officials of the Electoral Commission are being held at the Savelugu District Police Station for allegedly attempting to illegally secure evidence to facilitate the EC’s case in court against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The officials were dragged to the police station by some supporters of the NPP who claimed the EC officials attempted to get some previously unsigned pink sheets validated.

Joy News’ Northern regional correspondent Hashmin Mohammed said a mob besieged the police station after the two officials were arrested but added that the police managed to control the situation.

He added that officials of the NPP were at the scene to calm their supporters and disperse them.

According to Hashmeen, the police have refused to comment on the issue for now.

NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo and two others are challenging the EC over the outcome of the 2012 elections in court.
