EC official asks political parties to choose right polling agents

Ho, Nov. 23, GNA – Mr Mohammed Addoquaye, Volta Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), on Monday advised the political parties to be meticulous in selecting their polling agents for Election 2004, to boost the integrity of the polls.

Addressing a Regional Inter-Party Advisory Committee in Ho, he said the calibre of polling agents was also crucial in safeguarding the interests of the parties.

Mr Addoquaye said the agents should be committed, knowledgeable and intelligent.

He said the veracity of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections was a joint responsibility of the EC and the political parties. Mr Addoquaye said any eligible voter without a Photo Identity Card, would be allowed to vote if his or her name is listed in the Voters Register, the Polls Book and the Photo Identity checklist. However, those who did not complete the Voter Registration Exercise would not be allowed to vote.

Mr Addoquaye appealed to the political parties to assist the security agencies to arrest people allegedly buying Photo- Identity cards from prospective voters in the Region.
