EC leadership crisis dangerous – Presby Moderator

The moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev Professor Cephas Narh Omenyo has called on government to immediately resolve the leadership crisis at the Electoral Commission (EC).

According to Rev. Prof Omenyo, the recent accusations and counter-accusations among the leadership of the EC poses a serious threat to Ghana’s democracy.

Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Charlotte Osei and two of her deputies, Amadu Sulley, (Deputy Chair, Operations) and Mrs. Opoku Amankwaa (Deputy Chair in charge of Finance and Administration) are not have been locked in a bitter feud.

While the deputies accuse their boss of incompetence and arrogance, Mrs. Osei is also accusing her deputies of corruption.

A petition seeking the removal of the Mrs. Osei by some unknown staff of the EC has been forwarded to the Chief Justice.

The acting moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rev George O. Kwapong speaking on behalf of the moderator during the Church’s 17th General Assembly at Kwahu Abetifi on Saturday 19th August, 2017, emphasised that it would be prudent for all the state institutions concerned to deal with the issues at the EC appropriately.

Touching on the issues of mob justice, the moderator said it creates a sense of insecurity saying the government must be swift in halting menace.
