The IT department of the Electoral Commission of Ghana was on Friday gutted by fire.

Information available to XYZ News indicates that staff of the IT department managed to quell the fire with fire extinguishers at the office.

The Principal Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annor confirmed to XYZ News that it is not clear what might have caused the fire.

She confirmed that computers in the department were not affected by the fire.

However, it is not known if evidence to be used by the EC to defend itself in the election fraud case at the Supreme Court have also been affected by the fire.
