EC has been urged to re-visit its system of allotting electoral ares

Sunyani (B/A) March 23 GNA- The Sunyani Traditional Council on Monday appealed to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-visit its administrative system of allotting electoral areas in the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to enable Sunyani Area Council to have its proper share of electoral areas.

Nana Bosoma Asor-Nkrawiri 11, Omanhene of the Traditional Area made the appeal at a press conference organized by the Council in Sunyani. Flanked by the sub-chiefs of the traditional area and also attended by 15 of the 18 traditional heads of the Zongo Community in Sunyani.

The Omanhene noted that Odomase Electoral Area in the Municipality had more Assembly Members than Sunyani, whose population was greater than that of Odomase.

He expressed the hope for a positive response to the appeal, especially in view of the fresh voters registration exercise to enable the Commission to correct the imbalances in the next Sunyani Municipal Assembly elections.

Nana Asor-Nkrawiri advised the Zongo traditional heads to advise their people to take the on-going registration exercise seriously as that was the only way they could exercise their franchise in the December general election and sub-sequent ones.

Alhaji Issifu Imoro, Chairman of the heads and chief of Daafi community thanked the Omanhene and the traditional council for the continued respect given to them and gave the assurance that the Zongo community would continue to play their part to ensure peace in the Municipality.

He said already the various traditional heads had made it clear to people in their communities of the need for them to register and expressed the hope that by the end of the exercise, the majority of the residents, if not all, would have registered.
