EC denies disqualifying 24 MPs in Ashanti Region

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Lawrence Sarpong has denied the disqualification of 24 MP aspirants in the Ashanti Region.

In an exclusive interview with Ultimate FM’s Fremah Boakye, Mr. Sarpong said he is not aware where the information is emanating from insisting no such report has been brought to his attention.

“I forwarded everything to Accra…if Accra has made that decision I am not aware. I also believe they would have officially communicated that to me. As we speak now, I have not received any information to that effect”, he stated.

Some news portals on Thursday reported that Twenty-four parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region have been disqualified for various reasons by the Electoral Commission.

A total of 240 aspirants from 12 political parties filed to contest the 47 parliamentary seats in the region.

Nineteen were contesting as independent candidates. Both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party filed for each of the 47 slots.
