Yeji (B/A), Sept.28, GNA- The Yeji Boat Transport Co-operative Society, is demanding 10.4 million cedis, from the Electoral Commission (EC), as the cost of transporting registration materials and personnel, to inaccessible communities, along the Volta Lake during the recent voter registration exercise.
The society has threatened not to cooperate with the EC in subsequent national assignments if the money was not paid immediately and this could affect people in the newly created Pru District. Mr David Nyamekye, Spokesman of the Society told the Ghana News Agency that the Commission (CHRAJ) had been given two weeks to settle the debt.
He said a report had been made to the local office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice for redress. Mr Samuel Nyamekye, District Director of CHRAJ told the GNA, that his office had received the complaint.
However, Mr Gabriel Dei, the District Director of the EC refused to comment on the issue.
