EC announces dates of mopping up exercise

Accra Aug. 26, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday said it would conduct nationwide photo-taking mopping-up exercise between September 3 and September 7 and reminded voters that only new identity cards would be accepted for Election 2004.

It, therefore, urged all Ghanaians, who registered during the registration exercise in March 2004 but were unable to take the required photograph, to take advantage of the exercise to complete the voter registration process and be issued with identity cards.

These were contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr Henry Okyne, Director of Public Affairs at the Electoral Commission.

The statement said the mopping up exercise was not a fresh registration of voters and prior to the commencement of the exercise, the Regional and District Offices of the Commission would advertise the centres where cameras would be placed for the convenience of prospective voters.

It advised any affected person, who would travel outside the country during the mopping-up exercise, to formally apply to notify the Commission for special arrangements to be made for him or her.
