EC accepts CPP’s filing fee

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has eventually admitted the Convention People’s Party (CPP) into the 2016 presidential election race after the party failed to meet the deadline for the submission of filing fees.

The deadline for the submission of the filing fee was Monday, October 10, at 12:00 PM but the party could not submit the filing fees of its presidential and parliamentary nominees before the mid-day deadline.

Even though the party’s National Chairman, Prof Edmund Delle, got to the office of the EC just a minute before the deadline, he could not submit the banker’s draft for the payments.

He informed the EC that the party would soon submit the fees, after which he was seen exiting the EC’s office in Accra to pursue the draft.

The EC set the deadline for the payments after an Accra High Court struck out an injunction suit filed by the Progressive People’s Party.

Fifteen out of the 17 presidential aspirants who picked the forms have been able to submit their payments so far.
