Ipas, an International Reproductive Health Organization has donated assorted medical equipment worth GHC 264,000 to the Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in Koforidua to reduce maternal death.
The items, which were all maternal health needs, would be distributed to 31 facilities in the region where Ipas had trained doctors, midwives and other health providers in comprehensive maternal health care to ensure that no woman dies during childbirth.
Dr Koma Jehu-Appiah, the country Director of Ipas, who donated the items, said in line with the organization’s objective to reduce maternal deaths to the barest minimum, it had decided to equip all the facilities within the region with critical maternal health needs.
He said “Ipas believes that no woman should die through childbirth, especially through preventable and avoidable causes that normally happens”.
Dr Jehu-Appiah hoped that the 31 beneficiary facilities would see improvement in their health delivery to ensure that women who went to the facilities with reproductive issues receive the best of care and that no life would be lost in the cause of giving another life.
Dr Frank Damien Dedzo, the Regional Director of the GHS who received the items, described Ipas as a reliable partner in reducing maternal deaths. He said apart from the numerous supports received in terms of training from Ipas, the donation was the third of its kind to the region.
Dr Dedzo pledged that the equipment would be put to good use to ensure that the objective of Ipas in making childbirth pleasant would be realized in the region and the nation as the whole.
