Scores of passengers at the old Tema station, Ho Lorry Park in Accra, are stranded due to scarcity of vehicles to transport them to their various destinations for the Easter celebration. Ghana News Agency monitoring team observed.
Nana Kwame Sarpong, Chairman of the Accra-Ho branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), in an interview with the GNA in Accra, said the station normally faces such problems annually during Easter festivities due to unavailability of vehicles to transport passengers.
“Normally our drivers don’t get passengers at Ho to be transported to Accra hence the delay to return on time to transport passengers in Accra” he said.
Nana Sarpong said also that the situation was due to unexpected heavy traffic on the Accra-Tema Motorway.
He said: “We have therefore instructed our drivers to use alternate routes such as the Dodowa road so that they could reach Accra early enough to transport their passengers,” and gave the assurance that all stranded passengers would be taken care of before close of Thursday.
Mr Eric Nfodzo, a passenger, told the GNA that he had been in the queue for hours.
At the Akwapim station, there were enough vehicles waiting to transport passengers to Koforidua and its environs.**
