Easter is not about paragliding, eggs… – Otabil

Pastor Mensa Otabil says Easter must not be used by Christians for fun, but rather, for putting Jesus at the centre of Christianity.

Preaching about the resurrection of the Christian Jesus on Easter Sunday, the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (I.C.G.C) observed that: “These days Christmas seems to be about Santa Claus who didn’t die for us. But Christmas has shifted from Jesus to Santa Claus, who comes to town. And Easter is now becoming about Easter eggs and in some countries, Easter bunnies and in Ghana, paragliding and all kinds of activities.”

The motivational preacher admonished that: “…Easter is not about our own fun.”

Dr. Otabil said: “…Although there are many benefits we can derive from it in terms of family reunions and people meeting together and people travelling to their hometowns and so on, it’s all about Jesus. And we have to put Jesus at the centre of Easter.”

Thousands of Ghanaian revelers troop to Kwahu-Atibie in the Eastern region every Easter season for the annual paragliding festival which has become an attractive source of local tourism. It also attracts foreign tourists every Easter. The Kwahu mountains have become synonymous with Easter celebrations in Ghana.
