East Akyem DCE commends health workers

Koforidua, Aug.14, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Victor Asihene, the East Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE), on Monday commended health workers in the area for working professionally to boost peoples’ interest in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He said over 55 per cent of the population of the district had joined the NHIS and urged those who had not yet registered with the scheme to do so.

Mr. Asihene was speaking at a meeting to review the performance of the District Health Directorate for the first quarter of the year, at the Kyebi Government Hospital. He said the assembly would support the Health Directorate to expand facilities and provide more equipment to facilitate health care delivery.

Mrs. Eunice Abuaku, the District Director of Health Services, said the Directorate was collaborating with the Ghana Road Private Transport Union to ensure early conveyance of expectant mothers to the health centres on time to reduce maternal mortality in the area. Ms. Diana Ohene, the District Disease Control officer, said the area did not record any epidemic during the period under review.
