Earth Tremor reportedly hits parts of Central Region

Residents of Atonsu in the Central Region were, on Monday evening, gripped with fear following a reported earth tremor.

According to residents they heard a loud noise followed by minutes of earth tremor forcing them to quickly rush out of their rooms.

Some of the residents feared it could be the precursor of an earthquake.

One of the residents, Rockson Boateng, told XYZ News although no one was injured, many people are still in a state of shock and fear.

He said many residents stayed out of their rooms for hours before going back indoors.

Geologist, Dr. George Amamoo Otchere, in an interview with Radio XYZ 93.1 FM said he has not received any information to that effect but advices residents of the area to be careful and vigilant.

According to Dr. Amamoo Otchere, such tremors are usually mild and therefore should not cause panic among residents.

He said the tremor may have been localized even though sometimes they can occur in chains.**
