Early childhood education must be all encompassing

Kumasi, July 30, GNA – Mr Joseph Onyina, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, has called for support, strengthening and development of early childhood education to make it all encompassing. He explained there was the need for a proper foundation to be laid in bringing up the child, adding that this will make future development and education much easier.

Mr Onyina was speaking at this year’s Early Childhood Care and Development Week celebration in Kumasi at the weekend. He called on early childhood care and development teachers and attendants to show more commitment and dedication to their work and mentioned that training workshops would be organized for teachers and attendants of pre-schools in the metropolis on how to detect visual and hearing impairments in children.

He appealed to parents to desist from discriminating against the disabled child, adding they should be given equal access to quality education.

Madam Comfort Mpianin, Early Childhood Development Co-ordinator for Kumasi Metropolis, debunked the erroneous impression that pre-school was a dumping ground for busy parents and said rather, they played significant roles and needed to be given the needed support. 30 Jul. 07
