The minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing designate, Enoch Teye Mensah has condemned the attitude of the minority in Parliament who were dressed in funeral clothes to show President John Evans Mills red-card during the State of the Nation address.
He said the President deserves the maximum respect from Members of Parliament (MPs) who are there to represent their constituents: “I respect anybody who the people of Ghana vote for as President, be it my party members or a member from the opposition. Showing respect to the President by MPs can have influence on the youth.”
The Minister who is also the MP for Ningo-Prampram added that the minority could be in any dress they want to appear on the floor for the Nation’s address, but to heckle to the extent of showing red cards and shouting ‘away’ is disappointing on their part.
The minority New Patriotic Party members were at their heckling best and occasionally sand the famous ‘Woyome Gargantuan’ songs to heckle the President.
President Mills at the end of the address summed up his observations about the conduct of the minority: “I didn’t expect the heckling to be so gargantuan.”
