The Residents of Amanase a farming community in Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region have been cut off due to collapsed bridges as a result of heavy downpours in the area. The collapsed of the bridge has caused the river to flood the area making it difficult for residents particularly women and school children to cross.
The only bridge linking to Aboabo and Amanase Township has collapsed, leaving residents and travelers stranded. The incident occurred as disruption to the daily commute and transportation of goods in the area.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, but the collapse has isolated Amanase and other communities from surrounding areas, critically impacting local businesses and access to essential services. The DCE for Ayensuano District Hon. Joshua Yaw Frederick Lartey addressing the media, expressed his frustration over the incident.
According to him, the bridge had been in a dilapidated state for years, yet no actions were taken to repair it. He therefore appealed to the government, regional minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey and other stakeholders to come to their aid immediately to fix the collapsing bridge for the people.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Man for the area and NADMO Director of Ayensuano District has appealed to the authorities for immediate intervention to restore the bridge and ensure the safety and convenience of the affected communities.
They noted that, the bridge is the community’s sole reliance for access to schools, markets, and healthcare services, hence an urgent need to fix it to accelerate socio-economic development in the area.
