E/R NPP Elects New Executives

THE 10-YEAR REIGN AS Eastern regional Secretary enjoyed by Mr. Seth M. Ahyia was truncated last Saturday when another veteran of the New Patriotic Party, Alex Agobo, beat him mercilessly at their congress held at the capital, Koforidua.

At the end of the hectic campaigns and voting, which all competitors acclaimed as free and fair, Mr. Agobo got 93 votes, while the trailing Ahyia had only 40 votes.

Another keenly contested post was that of the regional chairman in which Nana Adi Ankama beat his long time foe, Kwabena Benpong, by 80 to 61 votes.

Nana Adi Ankamah thus enters his third term of office, having successfully sought a re-election three years ago after beating Mr. Benpong at a similar congress held at Bunso.

In some of the other contests, Christian Tettey, the DCE for Yilo, beat his compatriot, Mr. Agyapong, 86 votes to 56 to retain his post as first vice-chairman.

For the second vice-chairman of the region, Osei Ameyaw, succeeded in beating his three other rivals, scoring 70 votes followed by Oware who got 47.
