Dzodze (V/R), April 17, GNA – Communities have been asked to appreciate and honour the achievement of their citizens and rally behind them.
The minister of Health, Major Courage Quashiegah (RTD), who said this at the weekend, noted that such recognition of individual breakthroughs encouraged people to give off their best in developing their areas and the society at large.
He was addressing a durbar of Chiefs and people of Dzodze Traditional Area in the Ketu District. It was organized in honour of Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, who is a native, on his elevation to the position of a Regional Minister from a deputy position a year ago.
Maj Quashigah held that “honour done a citizen is an honour to the entire community and an encouragement to younger generations”. He said political difference should not stand between the development and unity of a community and asked the chiefs and people of Dzodze to rally behind Mr Dzamesi as their good ambassador.
“Your durbar to congratulate him enthused us all and we hope you will remain behind him for the general interest”, Major Quarshiegah said.
He said the government would not employ the divide and rule tactics but was rather uniting the people through its good policies and fair distribution of the national cake.
Major Quashiegah said final construction work on the Tema-Aflao Highway and Akatsi-Dzodze-Akanu diversion would be tackled at all cost, while the on-going oil palm project at Dzodze would also be implemented to the fullest.
He advised the media to eschew bias in the reportage on government policies, adding that government would never run down the nation and its people, though there might be genuine mistakes. Mr Dzamesi expressed gratitude to his people, saying his elevation was a challenge to him. He asked the people to unite and support him and the government.
He said election v ictory was not an end in itself, adding that the government was committed to fulfilling the development side of the coin. Togbe Deh III, a chief of Dzodze, expressed appreciation for development projects in the Dzodze area.
He appealed to the government to establish a Secondary/Technical School to cater for the increasing JSS graduates of the area. Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Professor Cletus Dordonoo, Lecturer, University of Ghana and Mr Tommy Amematekpor, Presidential Advisor, were at the ceremony.
