DWM marks anniversary

Half Assini (W/R), May 16, GNA — Mrs Esther Lily Nkansah, Western Regional Minister on Monday renewed calls to women to take advantage of the various government interventions aimed at raising their living standards.

She made the call at the 18th anniversary celebration of the Western Region 31st December Women’s Movement at Half Assini. Mrs Nkansah said the interventions are aimed at enabling women to play their expected roles in the development of the country. She was happy that the Movement is educating women to know their rights a-nd what is expected of them.

The Regional Minister commended the movement for creating a platform for women to put forward their views on issues affecting the welfare of women. “What the DMW has been doing for the past 18 years is to ensure that everybody in the society enjoys a maximum standard of comfort and well-being”.

Mr Joseph Ackah, Member of Parliament for Jomoro, urged women to do everything in their power to prevent conflict and violence during electioneering campaigns. He said this is important because women and children suffer a lot when there is violence.

Mr Ackah said the country’s present economic difficulties are due to low prices for its primary products and asked the women to explain these to those who do not know for them to appreciate the problems.
