Dwaaho Rejects HIPC Project

The Dwaaho community near Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district of Ashanti has rejected a ?180 million JSS block funded under the HPIC Relief Fund.

The chief and people have since communicated the rejection of the project to the District Chief Executive, Mr. Akwasi Poku. They have also notified trhe District Director of Education.

They explained their rejection in the fact that there are cracks on the walls and floor. According to them the contractor, Messrs Konamagya Construction Ltd., did not use quality cement block for the project and therefore, the project was a death trap and not fit for occupation.

The PTA chairman, Nana Kwame Dapaah, Unit Committee chaiman, Judas Ababio and the chairman of the School Management Committee, Nana Prempeh acting on behalf of the chief of the town, have jointly petitioned the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development to probe the shoddy work executed by the contractor. Ocads Consult Ltd. is said to be providing consutltancy on the project for the contractor.
