Mr Rudolph Beckley, the Chief Executive Officer of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has appealed to the public not to access services from any unscrupulous persons apart from DVLA officers.
He appealed to the police Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) to urgently address the rising spate of issuance of fake electronic roadworthy stickers to the public.
Mr Beckley said the electronic roadworthy stickers were machine-readable and for that matter, anyone who acquired a roadworthy sticker from any other source, apart from DVLA’s approved channels, was likely to be issued a fake sticker and would eventually be arrested by the police.
He said this at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday during which he presented extra 20 of the Two Dimensional Code Scanners, a device used in detecting fake roadworthy stickers, to the Police MTTD.
Mr Beckley said the DVLA had distributed large number of the device to officers of the MTTD and appealed to the security services to be firm in dealing with people who issued fake stickers.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Sulemana Sulley Jnr, Operations Officer, MTTD, told the GNA that two drivers were found to be using fake roadworthy certificates.
He said they were arrested and they took the police to the place where they acquired the stickers and those who printed the stickers were arrested.
