The Driver Vehicular Licensing Authority (DVLA) is holding a four-day capacity building workshop for its national, regional and district directors to study and develop ways of implementing the Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180.

A total of fifty participants are part of the training in Koforidua which started on Thursday and is expected to end on Sunday.

The workshop is mainly to enable the directors strategize and to reposition the DVLA to perform its mandate efficiently.

The participants were also to study the entire LI, to understand the language used in it and to come out with new ways in improving licensing regulations in the country.

Opening the workshop, Mr Rudolph P. Beckley, the acting Chief Executive of DVLA, urged the staff to shun the culture of corrupt practices within the sector in order to create a good image for the authority.

“Let us have road safety that is devoid of compromise because the object of our Authority is to ensure road safety in the country,” he said.

Mr Beckley said corrupt practices among the staff and their clients are creating problems for the Authority and it has to be halted to protect the integrity of the DVLA.

He said the challenges being faced by the Authority include human resource, technical knowhow, offices and accommodation among others.
